Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — A woman who was killed Tuesday in a fiery highway crash outside Akumal has been laid to rest. Ginger Arana, 41, died after being trapped inside her company vehicle when it caught fire.
On Thursday, the Playa del Carmen Red Cross held a service for the woman, who was a volunteer paramedic. She volunteered with the Red Cross on weekends and delivered products for the Sabritas chip company during the week.

Paramedics from Playa del Carmen ,along with coworkers from the Sabritas chip company, paid tribute to their colleague. The posthumous tribute to Ginger Mariel Arana was held two days after the accident.
Ginger Arana was killed when her Sabritas company vehicle was hit from behind by a bus. Her cargo truck was thrown into a pole and almost immediately caught fire. She was trapped inside the burning vehicle and unable to be saved.
The PDC Red Cross identified her as the victim later that same morning.

The accident happened around 7:00 a.m. Tuesday a few kilometers from the town of Akumal. Two Sabritas trucks were parked on the shoulder of the highway when a bus hit the rear truck sending it into a pole.
Firemen arrived only to extinguish the remains of the burning vehicle. Police arrested the driver of the bus from the scene.

Updated information says the bus driver, identified as Jesús “N”, dozed at the wheel when he clipped the back of the parked Sabritas truck. The front passenger side of the bus was destroyed during the accident. The driver of the second Sabritas company truck was not injured.
The bus was transporting Riviera Maya hotel employees at the time of the accident. Three people from the bus were transferred to hospital. Others from inside the bus were treated roadside for minor injuries.

On Thursday, authorities reported that the driver of the bus has been admitted into the Playa del Carmen Municipal Detention Center while the investigation continues.
