Riviera Maya, Q.R. — A new tropical disturbance located in the Eastern Atlantic shows promise for further development in coming days. The NOAA says Invest AL96 is 70 percent likely to develop into a tropical depression within the next 48 hours.

Meteorologists are keeping an eye on the development of Invest AL96 as it moves westward across the Atlantic. The weather agency also noted that conditions could lessen toward the weekend for further development.
The area of low pressure (Invest AL96) is a few hundred miles south-southeast of the Cabo Verde Islands where it is producing disorganized showers and thunderstorms.
Environmental conditions appear conducive for gradual development, the NOAA reported Tuesday, adding that the system is likely to become a tropical depression during the next day or two while it moves westward to west northwestward across the eastern and central tropical Atlantic.

Environmental conditions could become less conducive for development by the weekend, they said. However, formation chance through the next 48 hours is considered high.
