Two van crash outside Tulum’s Jaguar Park leaves six with injuries

Tulum, Q.R. — A two-van accident Thursday near the entrance to Tulum’s Jaguar National Park left six injured. One of the involved vans went off the highway near the park and ended up coming to a stop in the trees after a collision with a second vehicle.

The accident was reported Thursday afternoon at the roundabout leading to the Tulum Archaeological Zone and Jaguar Park.

Four of the injured required hospitalization.

According to initial reports, a federal transport van rear-ended a taxi van from Playa del Carmen.

The two vehicles were traveling on the federal highway outside the town of Tulum when one vehicle hit the other.

The force of the impact caused one of vans to end up in brush. Firefighters and municipal traffic officers from the town of Tulum arrived to support the emergency efforts.

The driver identified as the alleged perpetrator was arrested by Municipal Traffic officers after, according to witnesses, he attempted to leave the scene.

The four taken to hospital were transferred for further medical evaluation, while the other two received on-site assistance. There were no reports of life-threatening injuries.

Police did not provide official details on an exact cause for the crash.
