Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — Charges have been laid against a Playa del Carmen man for aggravated extortion. Authorities say charges were laid after Erick Alberto “N” was arrested in flagrante delicto on August 3 of this year.
Police said Erick Alberto “N” entered a convenience store on Chemuyil and 28 de Julio Avenue in the Toscana subdivision. Inside, he approached a female worker, demanding 5,000 pesos per week for “protection money”.
Police said he also warned her that if she did not give him the money at that moment, he would return to kill her. Before he left, police said he handed her a piece of paper containing a written message with a phone number.
He then threatened the victim with a knife, ordering her to pay him the 5,000 pesos at that moment.
The victim told him that she only had 300 pesos, an amount she gave to Erick Alberto “N”. At the moment, a police patrol vehicle was passing that she was able to stop.
Police said they took Erick Alberto “N” into custody “in flagrante delicto”, also securing the cash given to him by the victim, as well as the knife he used to threaten her.
Erick Alberto “N” has been charged with aggravated extortion and ordered to remain jailed during his trial.
