Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — A motorcycle driver involved in a collision with a semi has died in hospital. The driver of the bike was hit by a semi Wednesday morning while trying to pass it.

The accident happened on Playa del Carmen Boulevard near Universidades Avenue where the motorcycle driver ended up under the semi.
According to initial reports, the motorcyclist was traveling north in the left lane when he tried to pass the semi. He was hit by the semi when he abruptly shifted into the right lane during the maneuver.
The motorcycle struck the mid-left side of the semi-trailer, causing him to lose control and slide under the semi.
Witness motorists immediately called emergency services in response to the 7:00 a.m. accident.
First responders found the motorcycle driver conscious following the accident. He was transferred to a Playa del Carmen hospital alive but died shortly after being admitted.
Municipal Traffic Police arrested the driver of the semi and secured both vehicles. Highway traffic was disrupted for more than an hour. The driver of the motorcycle has not been identified.
