Tulum police respond to reports of second body found in less than 24 hours

Tulum, Q.R. — Authorities have not publicly identified the body of a man found on a vacant lot this morning. He is the second person to be found laying dead in Tulum greenspace in less than 24 hours.

On Friday morning, a call to emergency 9-1-1 lead police to the body of a man reported found in an advanced state of decomposition. The discovery was made inside a vacant lot in downtown Tulum.

The body was found in a lot next to a construction site August 21, 2026.

Police confirmed the finding on a plot of land near the intersection of Polar Poniente and Sacil-Há Street next a construction site.

Officers from the Tulum Public Security and Citizen Protection Secretariat arrived at the scene and cordoned off the area.

The man’s identity, as well as the circumstances surrounding his death, are currently unknown. Municipal police cordoned off the area while state officials started an investigation.

On Thursday afternoon, residents on Tunkul Street called 9-1-1 to report the finding of an unresponsive male. Upon arrival, Tulum police found a young man laying on his side against a building.

He was confirmed dead by medical personnel. The identity of that man or his possible cause of death also remain unknown.
