Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — Police say a man who tried to extort a Playa del Carmen bar manager out of 20,000 a month has been charged. Police said Saturday that Jayson Alfonso “N” was charged with aggravated extortion.
Investigations indicate that on August 25, Jayson Alfonso “N” allegedly entered a bar on Avenida 15 on Calle 10 in the Centro neighborhood where he allegedly approached the owner to demand payment of 20,000 pesos per month for “protection money”.
Police said the victim was threatened with “shooting up the place and killing her” if she did not pay.
According to the police report, the victim handed over an envelope containing 5,000 at the same moment a patrol car was driving past the establishment.
The woman caught the attention of police, telling them of the extortion. Authorities quickly located Jayson Alfonso “N”, taking him into custody. At the time of his arrest, police said he was in possession of 5,000 pesos given to him by the victim.
