Cancun, Q.R. — An American man wanted in Idaho for methamphetamine distribution was captured for living illegally in Cancun. Police said Wednesday that American Evans “N” was initially taken into custody for being in the country illegally.
After he was detained for an immigration violation, authorities learned he had an outstanding arrest warrant in the state of Idaho.
According to the SSC (Secretary of Citizen Security), Evans “N”, a U.S. national, was detained for failing to provide proof of legal status in the country. Police did not say how they came to learn of his illegal living situation in Cancun.
However, the SSC (Secretaría de Seguridad Ciudadana) of Quintana Roo elaborated, saying “following investigative work, information sharing with international agencies, and as part of inter-agency coordination, personnel from the Transnational Crimes Unit of the Secretariat of Security and Citizen Protection, the Investigation Directorate of the Secretariat of Citizen Security, and the Secretariat of the Navy located and detained a U.S. national.”
Police said during the operation, Evans “N” was unable to prove his legal status in Mexico and was found to be the subject of an active arrest warrant in Idaho (United States) for the offense of methamphetamine distribution.
Subsequently, the arrest warrant for extradition purposes was executed. Authorities reported Wednesday that Evans “N” was handed over to Mexican immigration (the National Migration Institute – INM) to proceed with his immigration and extradition process.
