Isla Mujeres, Q.R. — Two men spotted adrift by a tanker vessel in Quintana Roo waters around 15 nautical miles off the coast were rescued. Local authorities rescued the pair from aboard the ship Friday night off the coast of Isla Mujeres.
According to the Secretariat of the Navy, personnel from the Isla Mujeres Naval Search, Rescue, and Maritime Surveillance Station (ENSAR) rescued two individuals following an emergency call reporting that a tanker vessel had spotted and rescued two men who were found floating in the water.
“In light of this, and with the aim of safeguarding human life at sea, a vessel from ENSAR Isla Mujeres was immediately deployed to the reported location. The crew made contact with the aforementioned tanker approximately 15 nautical miles (28 kilometers) east of Isla Mujeres, Quintana Roo,” the Mexican Navy reported.
Both men were of foreign origin and handed over to immigration officials upon arriving at the Puerto Juárez Navel Station.
The Navy said both were found in good health and were transported to the Naval Station at Puerto Juárez, Quintana Roo, where they were handed over to authorities from the National Migration Institute (INM) for the appropriate legal processing.
