Police say they shot dead cartel boss and arrested another member in Felipe Carrillo Puerto operation

Felipe Carrillo Puerto, Q.R. — A suspect considered a most wanted in the state of Quintana Roo has been reportedly killed. Police say Miguel “C”, alias “Casilda”, alleged plaza boss of a gang, was shot dead by them Wednesday.

The State Attorney General (FGE) reported Thursday that during an operation resulting from an armed confrontation, members of the Interinstitutional Group killed Miguel “C”, alias “Casilda”.

Police said Miguel “C” was the alleged plaza boss of a gang dedicated to drug dealing and extortion in the municipality of Felipe Carrillo Puerto.

The operation, in which they arrested a male member of the same criminal group, involved elements of the Investigative Police, the Secretariat of National Defense, the Secretariat of the Navy and National Guard, as well as state and municipal police.

Weapons, tactical gear and tire spikes were some of the items seized during the Wednesday operation.

During the operation and subsequent arrest of one male gang member, officers seized seven long firearms, six caliber 0.223 mm and one caliber 7.62 mm known as “cuerno de chivo” (goat’s horn), four short firearms caliber 0.9 mm, fragmentation grenades, loaded magazines, tire spikes, vests and tactical accessories.

They also seized two vehicles. A black Jetta and a white Virtus which is allegedly related to various reportes of local kidnappings.

Police confirmed that the deceased man was considered a priority target on the State Crime Atlas (most wanted list), and that a reward of 700,000 pesos had been offered since September 19th of this year for anyone providing effective and reliable information leading to his capture.

Police say Miguel “N” is a suspect in several homicides and disappearances and had an outstanding arrest warrant for those crimes.

In a statement, the FGE said “this Public Prosecutor’s Office will continue to report on the progress of the operation, while reinforcing its commitment to zero impunity and pursuing lawbreakers to bring them to justice.”
