Felipe Carrillo Puerto, Q.R. — A clash between authorities and an armed group left one man dead, one woman injured and one person in custody. Police and military personnel were involved in the deadly shooting Wednesday in the town of Felipe Carrillo Puerto.
National Guard were patrolling the area when they came upon what has been referred to as suspicious vehicles. Upon seeing the patrol, the drivers of those vehicles reacted by fleeing which led to a chase.
The vehicles were spotted in the Cecilio Chi neighborhood Wednesday afternoon where the pursuit began. The brief chase ended when the vehicles were cornered on 50th Street and Lázaro Cárdenas Avenue.

At that point, the occupants from inside the vehicles drew their weapons and opened fire against authorities who returned fire. As a result, one man was killed at the scene and a woman wounded. Police were able to arrest one person while a second managed an escape.
After the shooting, several of the town’s blocks were cordoned off. Authorities created a wide perimeter for the collection of evidences, including the body of the man who was killed.
Those involved in the exchange of gunfire with police are reported to have been connected to the Caborca Cartel.
The man killed, “la Casilda,” is said to have been a hitman for the cartel. The injured woman, Maria “M” is reported to be connected to the local government and the girlfriend of la Casilda. One suspect, identified as Vladimir “M”, managed to escape being captured.

Following the shooting, Felipe Carrillo Puerto Mayor Mary Hernández issued a statement. She commented briefly on the operation noting that “positive results” were obtained but did not provide details.
