Passersby report sighting body in Cancun Hotel Zone mangrove

Cancun, Q.R. — Authorities have not released any information on the discovery of a body in the Cancun Hotel Zone Sunday. Police were notified of the body by passersby around 10:00 in a mangrove area.

The body of a man was located at kilometer 10 of Kukulcan Boulevard near a hotel. Initial reports say the body was seen suspended from a tree leading police to investigate a possible suicide.

Elements of the Tourist Police and the State Attorney General (FGE) were notified around 10:00 a.m. Sunday through a report that there was a person motionless among the mangroves.

Tourist police officers confirmed the report and requested the intervention of paramedics who determined that the person no longer had vital signs. Initial reports indicate that the body was suspended by a rope around the man’s neck.

Police closed one lane of Kukulcan Boulevard to traffic while the body was removed.
Several patrol cars remained parked along the boulevard while Investigative officers searched the area for identifying evidence.

The body was seen in the mangrove approximately one meter from the sidewalk near the edge of the lagoon. Initial reports indicate that passersby noticed the body and made the report to authorities.

The deceased has only been identified as a man between 40 and 50 years old since Investigative Police officers were unable to locate belongings that could help identify him during their area search.
