Pemex says Olmeca coke plant fire out with a 150 person brigade

Paraíso, Tabasco — Petróleos Mexicanos (Pemex) says a fire that started in a coke plant has been fully extinguished. The Thursday fire took more than an hour to battle by a brigade of firefighters.

The fire was first reported around 5:20 p.m. Thursday afternoon at the Olmeca Refinery in Dos Bocas Paraíso, Tabasco. Pemex reported in a statement Thursday evening that the fire was extinguished with no injuries reported.

Pemex said in a statement that at approximately 6:25 p.m., the fire at the Coke Plant of the Olmeca Refinery in Dos Bocas, Paraíso, Tabasco, was extinguished with no injuries reported and no damage to other process areas.

Security protocols were immediately activated to address the incident, which involved more than 150 emergency response specialists, who carried out cooling and verification work in the area.

As part of the protocol, personnel were evacuated from the administrative buildings inside the facility as well as from the Regional Units of Corporate Services and Asset Management at the Dos Bocas Maritime Terminal.

A preliminary report indicates that one firefighter suffered mild smoke inhalation and was immediately treated by emergency services. The incident did not pose a risk to the nearby population.

In parallel, they initiated the corresponding investigations to determine the Root Cause Analysis (RCA) of the accident.

Pemex and MARINA Physical Security personnel provide security and surveillance in the area until the completion of the work by specialized personnel.

In March, Petróleos Mexicanos confirmed the death of five workers in a refinery fire due to oily water overflow at the Olmeca refinery.
