Mayor says Tulum coastal road rehabilitation project ‘progressing steadily’

Tulum, Q.R. — The coastal road in the seaside town of Tulum is “progressing steadily” with drainage, signs and asphalt. Mayor Diego Castañón says the extensive overdue project is “a promise kept”.

“Rehabilitation work on our coastal corridor is progressing steadily, providing a decent, functional roadway befitting the grandeur of our municipality. We appreciate your patience during this project for the benefit of Tulum,” Castañón reported Monday.

The project, which includes an overhaul with leveling, drainage, signs and paving will provide a safe, dignified and environmentally friendly infrastructure, he said adding that the project goes beyond simple paving. “It’s a promise kept, a debt owed to our people,” he said.

The coastal road, a strategic route for tourism, is steadily making progress in its rehabilitation. The completed road will improve connectivity and safety in one of the municipality’s busiest tourist and service areas.

The coastal road of Tulum is a key access artery to hotels, archaeological sites and beaches. Repair has been a constant demand from residents and business owners.

According to Tulum City Hall the coastal road rehabilitation project includes installing storm drainage systems, resurfacing the asphalt, installing road signs and making improvements to pedestrian and bicycle mobility.

“Because Tulum deserves decent, safe roads that live up to its greatness, we’re moving forward,” he said. The project is being carried out in stages to minimize disruption to the daily flow of traffic.
