Cancun, Q.R. — Two people were removed from a burning home in Cancun Monday and treated for anxiety after their apartment caught fire. The Cancun Fire Department says the fire was controlled by a fireman “in the area” before they arrived.
Firemen were called Monday afternoon to an apartment in the city’s Kussmil Subdivision. At the scene, emergency personnel located a bedroom that was under control after being engulfed in flames.
The fire was contained by a city fireman who was in the area, they said.
Two people from inside the apartment, one adult and one child, were safely removed and treated for nervous shock, the Cancun Fire Department reported. The bedroom was left in complete ruins, however, no deaths were reported.
“Upon arrival, our team found the fire already under control. They proceeded to inspect and secure the property, confirming damage to a mattress, clothing, and a bed frame, as well as the presence of smoke and soot inside,” they reported.
Assistance was provided to two individuals, one of whom was a minor, who were suffering from acute anxiety (nervous shock), though the situation did not escalate further, they added.
The Cancun firemen said “we also wish to acknowledge the swift intervention of one of our fellow firefighters who was nearby; upon noticing the emergency, he immediately stepped in to help control the fire before backup units arrived.
“He sustained minor hand injuries during these efforts and received appropriate medical attention.”
Cancun Fire Department personnel worked at the scene, carrying out the necessary tasks to rule out further hazards and ensure the area remained safe.
