Mayor Castañón holds first of regular Tulum Advances press conferences

Tulum, Q.R. — Mayor Diego Castañón Trejo led the first Tulum Advances and Communicates on Monday. The regular press conferences, he says, will be led by the municipal administration to provide citizen information.

The first press conference was held July 8, 2025.

On Monday during the first press conference, which lasted just over one-and-a-half hours, he said they will be weekly with the goal of informing citizens about the progress of his administration and directly addressing citizen requests.

He indicated that the briefings are expected to become a permanent channel of communication between the municipal government and the people of Tulum.

“Tulum moves forward with clear actions. In a press conference, President Diego Castañón highlighted the initial results of the new security strategy and announced that 18 simultaneous projects are already underway throughout the municipality.

“These press conferences will be held weekly and broadcast on official social media to keep citizens informed and connected to the government,” Ayuntamiento De Tulum posted on social media Monday after the first conference.

Castañón said that during the conferences, reports from various City Hall departments on public works, security, social programs, public services and other topics of community interest will be presented.

According to Castañón, the regular communication will strengthen transparency, accountability and closeness to citizens. He said that the first editions will address priority topics such as public safety, garbage collection, urban development and sustainable tourism.

The Mayor also touched on 18 public projects being carried out around the municipality. Among these projects, he mentioned avenue paving projects such as the work in Akumal, Macario Gómez and various streets in neighborhoods that were left behind.

Edgar Aguilar Rico, the new Secretary of Security and Citizen Protection, said Monday “we are in the field and available 24 hours a day. As a result, in one week we have multiplied the number of deployments.

“We are taking action because we want to make it clear that no act that could harm the order or physical integrity of residents or tourists will be overlooked.”

Aguilar Rico provided some results that included the arrests of five individuals caught red-handed in possession of narcotics, which led to their transfer to the Prosecutor’s Office to initiate the corresponding judicial proceedings. This action represents a significant impact against organized crime in this first week, he explained.

Last week, Tulum Mayor Diego Castañón Trejo announced the start of regular weekly press conferences. He said the weekly press conferences will be permanent and inform the public about government progresses and address citizen concerns.
