Riviera Maya, Q.R. — A GPS system has helped police to track down a Cancun rental car reported missing in Playa del Carmen. Two people were arrested after the car was not returned on time and located in Playa del Carmen.

Local police located the rental car in the Ejidal neighborhood of Playa del Carmen thanks to the vehicle’s geolocation system. Aside from the car not being returned on time, the company detected an attempt to disable the GPS, which is when police were notified.
After police were notified, the Cancun rental car was tracked along Constituyentes Avenue in Playa del Carmen where it was being driven. The driver was stopped and a man and woman from inside were arrested.
Arrests were made on Constituyentes Avenue and 105th Street where it was discovered that the rental car had been given to a third party to settle an outstanding debt.

A second vehicle was also seized. It is not clear if those arrested were the third party or the initial couple that rented the car in Cancun. Police did not say how the second vehicle was related.
