Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — A driver was taken to hospital Thursday after slamming his SUV into a pole outside Playa del Carmen. The single vehicle accident happened around three kilometers south of the city when a tire burst.

According to available information, the burst tire caused the driver to lose control of the vehicle, leave the road, and crash into a pole. A burst front right tire is reported to have been the cause.
The accident happened near the Calica bridge where the impact from the SUV left the pole in pieces. The vehicle was deemed a write-off from the accident.
The driver was taken to hospital with undisclosed injuries.
Municipal Police and National Guard Highways were on scene directing traffic around the damaged SUV and broken pole. Traffic was disrupted more than an hour while the site of the single vehicle accident was cleared.
