Mayor agrees to additional paving of Punta Allen road

Tulum, Q.R. — Mayor Diego Castañón Trejo says another two kilometers of the road to Punta Allen will be paved. The announcement was made Sunday afternoon along with State Secretary Cristina Torres.

In a video with Torres, Diego Castañón announced the paving of the road connecting the town of Punta Allen to the arch. The additional two kilometers will be in addition to the eight already completed.

“We were with the people of Punta Allen and promised to bring them two kilometers of cement and machinery so they can begin work on the part of the town toward the arch,” he said.

Castañón met with Punta Allen residents Sunday after a staged protest Saturday. Residents were upset at the deterioration of their only road that leads into the seaside town.

Castañón said the extra two kilometers of road is in addition to the eight kilometers that have already been worked on. He announced five more, for a total of 15 kilometers, that will be rehabilitated to provide better access the town’s residents.

“The government is here to listen and resolve, and that is what we are doing right now. In addition to the eight kilometers already done, work will begin on two more kilometers and as soon as those are finished, we will begin on five more,” he told residents of Punta Allen.

“We are a friendly government and we like to be on the streets identifying problems and if they decide to come, we are happy to listen,” Castañón said.
