Riviera Maya, Q.R. — There are 31 confirmed cases of the measles across Quintana Roo, triple the number of confirmed cases from 10 days ago. Of those, nine cases of the measles are in Cancun and seven in Playa del Carmen. All 31 confirmed cases are in people who had not been vaccinated.
Governor Mara Lezama made an urgent appeal to residents Thursday to get the shots. She said the goal is to administer 336,000 vaccines over a period of 10 weeks across the state.
Governor Lezama said there are enough vaccines and that the priority is to immunize children who have not completed their vaccinations.
State health officials are also encouraging booster shots to those who need them and for those between the ages of 13 and 49 who have not been vaccinated, to get a single shot.
“The goal is that no one goes without their vaccines since the people who have been affected were not vaccinated against measles.”
“Your health and that of your family are of utmost importance to us and we expressed this during the second follow-up meeting with President Claudia Sheinbaum. There are enough vaccines in Quintana Roo,” the Governor stated adding that vaccination is the only way to prevent infections and contain the disease.
She detailed that, to date, more than 62,000 vaccines have been administered and that of the registered cases, nine are in Benito Juárez, seven in Playa del Carmen, and one in Puerto Morelos, which remain under epidemiological surveillance.
“Everyone is doing well,” she said.
The state is holding public open-air vaccination drives in the varying municipalities.

Governor Lezama said the shots are also being administered at health centers in all municipalities, and there will be an extra vaccination drive this weekend at various centers.
Citizens are encouraged to consult the vaccination sites on the official website: dondemevacuno.salud.gob.mx
Ten days ago, government officials announced there were only 10 cases of the measles across the state, a figure that has since climbed to 31. They were reported four in Cancun, three in Playa del Carmen, two in the municipality of Othón P. Blanco and one case in Isla Mujeres.
