Riviera Maya, Q.R. — The entire route of Tren Maya section 5 will be completed in September. Once finished the 111-kilometer stretch of electrified double track will connect the Cancun Airport, Puerto Morelos, Playa del Carmen and Tulum.
The first three stations, Cancun, Puerto Morelos and Playa del Carmen, are operational and bring visitors closer to tourist attractions such as the Arrecife Alacranes National Park, the Dr. Alfredo Barrera Marín Botanical Garden, Quinta Avenida, Parque Fundadores and the iconic Maya Portal, reported Tren Maya head Óscar David Lozano Águila.
On Monday, President Andrés Manuel López Obrador led the operations report of the Maya Train which focused on the section from Cancun to Playa del Carmen. During the report, authorities said as of August 8, that section accumulated 34,258 transported users, among which are national and international visitors.
Of the tickets purchased, 26,402 tickets were purchased in-person at station ticket offices and 7,856 online. Due to demand, two additional scheduled routes have been added, which now offers six daily departures between the two cities.
