Cozumel, Q.R. — Authorities say progress on the first stage repairs of the Punta Sur road on the island of Cozumel is half complete. The repair and maintenance of the access road to the Punta Sur Ecotourism Park is 50 percent complete, announced Juanita Alonso Marrufo, the General Director of the Cozumel Parks and Museums Foundation (FPMC).

She says once finished, the project will improve the infrastructure and visitor experience to the ecological reserve.
During a tour of the road, the completion of the first stage, extending from the main entrance to the Celarain Lighthouse, was confirmed. Alonso says after this, rehabilitation of another four kilometers will start with the road the goes to the beach area.
Alonso added that this project aligns with Governor Mara Lezama Espinosa’s vision of strengthening and improving the state’s tourism offering.
“This renovation will allow us to enjoy even more of the natural wealth and biodiversity that make Punta Sur a unique place. We look forward to seeing you in Punta Sur to continue connecting with Cozumel’s nature,” she said.

Punta Sur is one of the island’s most important ecological reserves, home to a great diversity of flora and fauna, as well as an attractive ecotourism destination. The two-stage improvements of the eight kilometers of road aims to ensure safer and more comfortable access for visitors, reinforcing the commitment to conservation and sustainable development of the destination.
