Cozumel, Q.R. — Miguel Alexander “N”, identified as the leader of the CJNG criminal cell on Cozumel, has been captured. He was arrested along with three other Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG) gang members after a standoff with police.
Local authorities announced the arrests of the four men Tuesday. The State Attorney General (FGE) reported that as a result of a coordinated operation with elements of the Secretariat of the Navy, Defense, State Police and Municipal Police, the four men were captured.
All four allegedly belonging to the Cártel Jalisco Nueva Generación (CJNG). Police say Miguel Alexander “N”, alias “Dumbo”, has been connected to two island murders since his arrest.

The other three, identified by police as Aarón “N”, Kevin Orlando “N” and Ever Eladio “N”, were found in possession of narcotics and loaded weapons. Police say all four were taken into custody during an operation carried out on 33rd Street South in the Colonos Cuzamil neighborhood of the island.
In a Tuesday press briefing by the SSC (the Secretariat of Citizen Security), they said the operation was in response to an emergency 911 call reporting the presence of armed individuals. In response, authorities went to 33rd Street South and Pedro Joaquín Coldwell Avenue in the Colonos Cuzamil neighborhood.
“Upon arriving at the scene, officers observed four individuals exchanging small plastic bags containing a green, leafy substance resembling marijuana. During the exchange, one of the individuals was seen carrying a black rifle.
“Upon noticing the officers, the armed individual raised his weapon and pointed it at the officers while another man positioned himself behind him. Both began walking backward, continuing to point the weapon at the officers.
“The other two individuals ran across the street and attempted to enter a vacant lot. Given the real and imminent threat, the officers drew their service weapons and ordered the armed man to lower his weapon.”

He initially ignored the order, but eventually threw his weapon to the ground at which time the two men attempted to flee. All four were captured and searched. The arresting officers found narcotics, a loaded semi-automatic pistol and a black rifle between them.
The FGE says since their arrests, the detainees are believed to be linked to two homicides, the first of which occurred on October 28 of this year on Félix González Canto Avenue and the second, on December 5 in the Flores Magón I neighborhood.
In the second murder, the victim was the father of the leader of a rival criminal group considered a priority target in the State’s Crime Atlas.
In both murders, police say they have linked Miguel Alexander “N” as the alleged mastermind, who they added, is also in charge of distributing weapons, drugs and resources, as well as ordering attacks against members of rival gangs on the island.

Earlier this week, police in Cancun also captured a CJNG cartel boss that ran the northern and Riviera Maya part of the state. The man they captured oversaw arms and drug trafficking in Cancun, Playa del Carmen, Puerto Morelos, Lázaro Cárdenas, Cozumel, Isla Mujeres and Tulum.
On Tuesday, Omar García Harfuch, the Secretary of Security and Citizen Protection of the Government of Mexico, recognized the recent Cancun plaza boss capture of Emilio Alejandro “N” by local authorities.

On social media, García Harfuch posted “in coordinated operations in Quintana Roo, authorities arrested individuals responsible for violence in the region and seized drugs, weapons, and tactical equipment. These operations are part of the fourth pillar of the National Security Strategy: coordination among the three levels of government.”
