Jalisco New Generation cartel boss who oversaw Riviera Maya captured in Cancun with 300,000 in sales

Cancun, Q.R. — Police in Cancun say they have captured a cartel plaza boss that ran the northern and Riviera Maya part of the state. The man they have in detention oversaw arms and drug trafficking in Cancun, Playa del Carmen, Puerto Morelos, Lázaro Cárdenas, Cozumel, Isla Mujeres and even Tulum.

During his arrest, he was found in possession of narcotics, a loaded weapon, four cell phones and 300,000 pesos in cash, all of which were seized along with the new-model car he was driving.

Police reported Saturday that Emilio Alejandro “N” was arrested, “suspected of involvement in drug trafficking and violations of the Federal Law on Firearms and Explosives.”

They said that based on intelligence work and field investigations, Emilio Alejandro “N” is considered the plaza boss for the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG) in the northern part of the state of Quintana Roo.

“He was boss primarily in the municipalities of Tulum, Playa del Carmen, Puerto Morelos, Lázaro Cárdenas, Cozumel, Benito Juárez and Isla Mujeres.

“He was allegedly the mastermind behind the expansion of territory controlled by the CJNG under the name “Deltas: Operation Jaguar,” which resulted in a significant seizure of weapons and tactical equipment bearing the same logos and lettering in recent weeks,” they said.

The operation was carried out by members of the Investigation Group of the Secretariat of Citizen Security (SSC), in coordination with the Secretariat of the Navy and the Secretariat of National Defense.

During routine patrols, officers noticed two men near the trunk of a parked vehicle with the trunk open exchanging bags of what police believed to be narcotics. Upon noticing officers, one of the men ran away and the other was subsequently searched.

The search and arrest took place on Avenida José López Portillo near the entrance to a supermarket parking lot in SM 98 of Cancun. During the search, arresting officers located a backpack of street-ready narcotics that included marijuana, crystal meth and powdered cocaine.

Also found was a loaded Glock 9mm handgun and a magazine and cartridges as well as a gray Kia Soul, 300,000 pesos in various denominations and four cell phones.

The suspect was turned over to the Specialized Prosecutor’s Office for Combating Drug Trafficking.
