Authorities tour affordable home project in Playa del Carmen as first delivery nears

Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — Nearly 100 new affordable homes are nearing completion for delivery to new owners. The first 96 affordable homes built in Playa del Carmen will be delivered at the end of October.

Mara Lezama, left, Estefanía Mercado, center and Octavio Romero Oropeza, right, toured the complex Thursday.

Governor Mara Lezama toured the federal housing project Thursday with the General Director of the National Institute of Statistics and Census (Infonavit), Octavio Romero Oropeza.

Authorities visited the El Edén subdivision where the two-bedroom apartments for the Housing for Well-being program promoted by President Claudia Sheinbaum are being built. They toured the complex in west Playa del Carmen to verify on-site, the quality of the materials and construction of homes about to be delivered.

“We are pleased with the features and that they are of high quality, as instructed by President Claudia Sheinbaum, so that people can live better,” said Mara Lezama.

She reported that these homes will have all services and are designed for all those people who have been unable to have a home and who couldn’t afford the necessary services. She said they are being built for workers earning one to two times the minimum wage, thus bridging the gaps in inequality.

Director Octavio Romero reported that 96 homes under this program will be delivered by the end of this month and another 96 in November, with the program continuing on a regular basis thereafter.

To date, the El Edén project has generated 407 direct jobs and 600 indirect jobs.

Together, they reported that for Quintana Roo, 100,763 projects are planned for the Housing for Well-being program through Infonavit. Of these, 8,128 are already signed and underway, 3,952 are signed and pending initiation, and 88,683 are under review at Infonavit.

The municipalities considered are Benito Juárez, Othón P. Blanco, Playa del Carmen, Puerto Morelos, Isla Mujeres and Tulum.

Playa del Carmen Mayor Estefanía Mercado and Secretary of Sustainable Urban Territorial Development Alberto Alonso Ovando also participated in the oversight tour.
