Tulum, Q.R. — Forest firefighting training has begun for volunteer ejidos. Last week, a group of ejidos who volunteer to battle forest fires in their municipalities were trained by personnel from the National Forestry Commission (CONAFOR).

Ejidos, along with personnel of Civil Protection and Firefighters Tulum, received training in fighting forest fires to strengthen prevention. The group trained last week with live controlled fires ahead of what is expected to be a busy fire season.
The forest firefighters received a basic course to respond effectively to a weed or small forest fire. The course was organized in coordination with the National Forestry Commission (Conafor) and the General Directorate of Civil Protection and Firefighters in Tulum.
During the training, participants were taught about fire behavior, safe management strategies and techniques for extinguishing forest fires as well as the correct application of controlled burns.

The members of the committees of various communities and ejidos that participated in the training on fire management was promoted by the General Directorate of Civil Protection and Firefighters Tulum, together with the National Forestry Commission (CONAFOR). This year, authorities are forecasting an increase in forest fires for the upcoming season.
