Tulum, Q.R. — Public transport in the town of Tulum could be expanded. Moisés Pool Quijano, the General Secretary of the National Union of Transporters of Change (Untrac) in Tulum, says they are working on expanding public transportation around town.
According to Pool Quijano, Unión Nacional de Transportistas del Cambio (Untrac) are trying to coordinate with other unions such as the Tiburones del Caribe and transport regulatory authorities, in order to allocate the service to residential areas in the first square of the city.
He pointed out that the colonies south, the furthest from the center, are where units and alternative ground transportation routes are most needed. He acknowledged that it is urgent to expand coverage and new public transportation options to generate greater competitiveness for neighborhoods such as Cristal, Ya’ax Tulum, Xul-ká, Maritez, and the Las Palmas I and II subdivisions, as well as other more distant neighborhoods such as Triunfadores and Aldea Tulum.
“We are in talks with the current leader of Tiburones del Caribe in coordination with municipal and state authorities. We are raising our hand to participate and provide the service within the municipality as locals.
“At meetings, our members have been asking about what progress there is in providing this service,” he said.
Tiburones del Caribe is currently the only company that provides mobility services within Tulum. However, there have been public complaints regarding the deficiencies of the service as well as overcharging since they are a monopoly.
