U.S. accepts 92 high profile drug kingpins from Mexico

Mexico City, Mexico — A total of 92 high-profile criminals have been transferred from Mexico to the U.S. in recent months. The latest transfer of 32 was made Tuesday in a third-round according to Omar García Harfuch, the Secretariat of Security and Citizen Protection of the Government of Mexico.

Harfuch said some of the drug kingpins handed over to the U.S. are prominent figures such as Caro Quintero, the founder of Los Zetas, as well as heads of the CJNG and Sinaloa cartels.

He said with this collective transfer of drug traffickers, the total number of high-profile criminals sent to the U.S. is now 92.

The latest transfer was made days after U.S. President Donald Trump said President Claudia Sheinbaum was “afraid of the cartels that are controlling Mexico” and after Marco Rubio, Secretary of State, demanded “concrete and verifiable results” from Mexico.

On February 27, 2025, the first group of 34 drug lords was extradited to the United States. Among those handed over were Rafael Caro Quintero, implicated in the murder of DEA agent “Kiki” Camarena as well as the founders of Los Zetas, Miguel Ángel Treviño Morales and Omar Treviño Morales, known by their aliases Z-40 and Z-42 .

A second group of 26 was sent August 12, 2025. That group included “La Tuta”, “Cuini” and friends of “El Chapo” Guzmán. The United States Department of Justice released a list with the full names of the 26 drug lords handed over by the Mexican Federal Government.

In their list, they highlighted high-impact criminal profiles such as Abigael González “Cuini”, leader of “Los Cuinis”, Servando Gómez “La Tuta”, leader of La Familia Michoacana and “El Chavo Félix”, a relative of Ismael Zambada.

The third group of 32 was delivered January 20, 2026.
