Cancun, Q.R. — UPDATED: Forensic personnel in Cancun removed the bodies of two people from a Cancun Hotel Zone beach Sunday. Both were swimmers who drowned after being pulled out to sea at Playa Gaviota Azul.
Rescue efforts to save the men were made by on-duty beach lifeguards as well as lifeguards from a nearby hotel. However, their efforts were not enough to save them.
The accident happened Sunday afternoon at kilometer 8.5 of the Cancun Hotel Zone. Emergency services responded to the desperate 9-1-1 call of two people in need of intimidate medical support.
The 9-1-1 report, which was captured by the C-5 centre, sent aquatic emergency personnel from the Hotel Zone to the beach. Despite their efforts, both men died. They were pronounced dead at the scene on the beach.
Due to the deaths, personnel from the State Attorney General arrived at the site along with forensics for the removal of the bodies. It is not known if the now-deceased men were visitors or local residents. At the time of reporting, their identities still had not been released.
UPDATE: The two drowned men have been identified as 24-year-old José Ricardo “N” and 31-year-old Celso “N”, both local residents working construction in Cancun, but originally from Mexico City.
