Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — Police say two Playa del Carmen taxis have been seized by state authorities. The cars were removed from the taxi union parking lot during their Wednesday night operation.
The operation was carried out by personnel from the State Attorney General (FGE), in coordination with National Guard, State Police and Municipal Police. Authorities carried out an inspection at the Lázaro Cárdenas del Río taxi union building where two units were seized.
According to police, the two taxis were seized after an attack against a motorist. Earlier this week, Playa del Carmen taxi drivers were videoed following a car with passengers they mistook for Uber. The driver was assaulted and his private vehicle damaged.
“According to initial investigations, it is indicated that the taxi drivers mistook the driver for a digital platform service provider on November 24 of this month, which is why they followed him until blocking his way, causing damage to his vehicle.
“Therefore, an investigation was opened for events that probably constitute the crimes of attacks on communication routes and means of transport, as well as threats and whatever else may result,” the FGE reported in a statement.
