Driver takes out CFE poles leaving several blocks without electricity

Cancun, Q.R. — Several Cancun neighborhoods were left without electricity Monday after a car took out power poles. The driver of the private vehicle knocked down two Federal Electricity Commission (CFE) poles on Monday afternoon, cutting power to dozens of homes.

The accident left overhead wires dangling above the street August 24, 2026.

The single vehicle mishap was reported at the intersection of Kabah and Las Torres Avenues Monday afternoon. CFE began receiving residential power outage reports around 2:30 p.m.

According to witnesses, the vehicle crossed the median before crashing into one of the CFE poles. When he hit the first power pole, a second pole collapsed.

The driver of the vehicle was taken to hospital after suffering injuries during the accident.

CFE personnel were eventually brought in to make the necessary repairs. Residents were left without electricity for several hours.
