Felipe Carrillo Puerto, Q.R. — Attorney General Raciel López Salazar reported significant progress in the investigation into the theft and subsequent burning of an armored vehicle. The truck was found on fire May 22 in Felipe Carrillo Puerto and missing its load of more than 2.6 million pesos.

According to Salazar, two individuals identified as William “N” and Juan Jesús “N” were arrested and half of the money recovered. At a press conference, Salazar said that during their Saturday arrests, William “N” was found in possesion of cocaine and 180,000 pesos in cash while Juan Jesús “N” was found with 196,000 pesos.
On Thursday, four males dressed in tactical gear with their faces covered stole a company cash-transfer vehicle. Inside the vehicle’s safe was just over 2.6 million in cash.
The robbery happened Thursday around 6:30 p.m. when company employees had stopped at a supermarket chain to collect the day’s cash. When they came out of the store to deposit the money into the safe, they found their vehicle gone.
Residents in a nearby area called police after seeing men set fire to the missing truck. Witnesses indicated that the perpetrators, who were dressed “like soldiers” and had their faces covered, fled running down 69th Street after setting the vehicle ablaze.

López Salazar said there are at least two more people involved in the incident that have already been identified by the Investigative Police and that their capture is imminent.
