Tulum, Q.R. — A group of Tulum residents blocked a section of the federal highway Sunday demanding free park access. The group blocked the road for nearly two hours demanding free access to the Jaguar Park beach of Tulum, something authorities announced resolved in December of 2024.
The group of protesters blocked the federal highway at the northern entrance to Tulum demanding free access to the beaches of the Parque del Jaguar. The blockade caused traffic congestion in both directions for hours.
Municipal and federal authorities intervened to remove the protestors and allow the flow of traffic.
The group were also demanding they be allowed to personally deliver a letter to President Claudia Sheinbaum who is visiting Tulum today.
“We are not asking to speak with her or demand anything more than to deliver a letter. We believe that this would be a great step forward in the fight for free access to the beaches. If we are not facilitated in this process, we will be forced to demonstrate again,” said the protesters.
Sheinbaum will be in Tulum Monday to lead the commemoration of the 110th anniversary of the Mexican Air Force and inaugurate the Military Air Base.
In December, Mayor Diego Castañón Trejo announced free Parque del Jaguar Tulum beach access to local residents with identification.

Governor Mara Lezama also announced free beach access for both Mexican and non-Mexican residents living in the municipality.

“Good news for Tulum! Access to Jaguar Park will be 100% free for those who live in the municipality, whether they are Mexicans or residents. With the New Agreement, we continue to work hand in hand with the three levels of government to bring more benefits to all the families of Quintana Roo.”
