Tulum forest firefighters working to put out three municipal blazes

Tulum, Q. R. — Authorities in Tulum are asking people to take care due to the extremely dry surroundings. Forest firefighters are currently battling three fires in various parts of the municipality.

Municipal authorities, in coordination with the National Forestry Commission (Conafor), have intensified their fighting efforts to prevent their spread, reported Manuel Castilla James, Director of the Tulum Fire Department.

The official noted that in recent days, reports of new hot spots have been received, so emergency protocols have been activated to contain the fires by creating firebreaks to prevent flames from spreading.

“We are working in coordination with Conafor and Civil Protection. Currently, there are three active fires, two of them located south of the municipal seat and another on the Tulum-Macario Gómez highway just behind the Zemway cenote,” said Castilla James.

The Director said that although the fires are under constant monitoring, weather conditions such as wind and drought pose a risk that could hamper control efforts.

Local authorities urge citizens to avoid bonfires, burning trash or any activity that could cause fires.
