Suspect blackmailing victim he met online formally charged

Cancun, Q.R. — A man accused of faking his identity to extort a victim he met online has been officially charged. Police say a formal indictment has been issued against Juan Pablo “N” for extortion.

Police said their initial investigations indicate that the victim contacted the now-accused through a website. Subsequently, Juan Pablo “N” exerted various forms of pressure and made financial demands on the victim, requesting 3,000 pesos and threatening to disclose personal information if he did not make the payment.

Days later, the accused contacted the victim again and demanded the same amount, which was deposited.

The following day, Juan Pablo “N” requested 12,000 pesos, however, the victim did not have that amount of money and sent only 1,800 pesos.

Later, the suspect contacted his victim again and, when he failed to make the requested payment.

The last time, he demanded 20,000 pesos and blackmailed his victim warning him that if he did not pay he would send “the conversations” to his family.

Following an official complaint, authorities requested and obtained an arrest warrant against Juan Pablo “N”, which was executed in coordination with the Attorney General’s Office of the State of Yucatan.

He was arrested in the city of Merida and returned to Cancun where he has since been charged.
