Agents of the State Investigative Police (PEI) of the Public Security Secretariat (SSP), in coordination with the State Attorney General’s Office (FGE) of Quintana Roo, arrested Juan Pablo “N” on Friday.

According to the Yucatan SSP (Secretaría de Seguridad Pública), he was considered a fugitive wanted for extortion. The 43 year old was taken into custody in Merida November 28 on an outstanding arrest warrant.

“The arrest warrant was issued by a Cancun judge stemming from events that occurred in May of this year, when a person was subjected to financial demands and threats by the accused, who used a profile with a fictitious name on a website to contact the victim,” the SSP said in a press briefing.

“According to the investigation, the suspect allegedly pressured the victim through messages and calls to obtain money deposits, threatening to release personal information if his demands were not met.

“The individual was a fugitive from justice, so investigators conducted a search and located him in Merida, where he was arrested and subsequently turned over to the judge in Quintana Roo who had issued the warrant for his arrest.”

The State Attorney General FGE (Fiscalía General del Estado) of Quintana Roo said their initial investigations establish that between May 14 and 20, 2025, the accused carried out various mechanisms of pressure, threats and economic demands toward the victim, obtaining transfers for different amounts of money.

The threats were made under the warning of disseminating personal and family information if he did not comply with the required payments, which varied from 3,000 to 12,000 pesos.

The Quintana Roo State Attorney General’s Office reports that, in collaboration with the Yucatan State Attorney General’s Office, in compliance with an arrest warrant, 43 year old Juan Pablo “N” was arrested in the city of Merida for his probable participation in acts possibly constituting the crime of extortion.

Police said Juan Pablo “N” set up a fake website profile to blackmail his victim.

Following his arrest, Juan Pablo “N” was transferred to Cancun by Investigative Police officers assigned to the Specialized Prosecutor’s Office for Combating Kidnapping and Extortion Crimes.
