Eduardo Enrique Pérez Barros has been sentenced to 50 years in a Mexican prison for her murder after being found guilty of femicide.

In a statement, police said “Eduardo Enrique Pérez Barros, a Chilean national, was with the victim on the morning of June 12, 2021, in the house they shared in the La Gloria neighborhood.

“At some point he hit her in the abdomen, neck and other parts of the body, and later took her life by asphyxiation due to severe laryngeal trauma,” they said.

“After killing her, Eduardo Enrique took the woman’s body to a boat, and then threw it into the sea, where it was located a short time later.

“Investigations have established that this femicide originated after the deterioration of the relationship in which there were conflicts as well as economic dependence and a controlling environment on the part of the accused.

“The victim had expressed her decision to separate from him and regain her autonomy, which generated a situation of tension that led to the act of extreme violence.”

In addition to the 50 year prison sentence, the judge imposed a fine of 288,860 pesos, as well as requiring him to provide 717,000 pesos for the repair of material damage. The woman has not been named.
