Tulum, Q.R. — A 21-year-old diver died after suffering suspected decompression sickness Thursday. Others came to the aid of the young man on Thursday morning after a dive in the Punta Piedra area.

Despite emergency efforts, the young man, a local fisherman, did not survive.
According to preliminary reports, the local man was scuba diving when, upon surfacing, he became unconscious.
Witnesses at the scene reported that the victim’s skin began to turn blue so they called emergency services. Paramedics performed CPR and were able to stabilize him, however, he died shortly after being admitted to hospital.
Municipal Civil Protection personnel, Navy and Municipal Police officers were also part of the responding team.
The State Attorney General (FGE) are investigating the death of the young local diver.
