Tulum, Q.R. — More than 20,000 people crammed into the Zamma music venue in Tulum Sunday night for the first edition of the state’s newly revamped music festival. Headlining the event was British artist Sting. The 73 year old was part of the international Mexican Caribbean Music Fest that had been revamped from the previous Riviera Maya Jazz Festival.

Sunday was the first edition of the music event that had been revamped from the Riviera Maya Jazz Festival into the Mexican Caribbean Music Fest. It was the first time in 20 years the festival was not held in Playa del Carmen.

The revamp came after the death of the festival’s organizer in early 2024. In November of 2024, Andrés Martínez Reynoso, the Director of the Mexican Caribbean Tourism Promotion Council (CPTQ), explained that the revamp would see the festival broaden its musical focus by integrating more diverse genres and also include a change of festival venues.

Each year, the music festival will be held in a different part of the state. On Sunday, Tulum hosted the first revamped edition which was attended by over 20,000. The festival was held at Zamna and included international artist Sting as well as Aterciopelados, Leo Prakash and Liquits.
