Cozumel, Q.R. — Six men accused of extorting a Cozumel tourist salesman of 50,000 a month are in custody. Police say the man, who sold tours from the Cozumel ferry terminal, was approached at gunpoint last year.

Investigative Police officers, in coordination with the Secretariat of Citizen Security (SSC), executed an arrest warrant against the six men Monday. All six are in custody “for their probable participation in acts possibly constituting the crime of extortion,” police said.
Bismarck Yahir “N”, Luis Diego “N”, Cuitláhuac “N”, Luis Fernando “N”, Álvaro “N”, and Nelson “N” approached the Cozumel salesman in September of 2025. At gunpoint, they demanded a monthly payment of 50,000 pesos as protection money.
The victim, who has not been named, made the payments at the end of each month, however, he finally filed a complaint that has lead to the six arrests.
“They are accused of crimes committed on September 29, 2025, at the Cozumel Fiscal Pier. They allegedly arrived at the pier armed with firearms and demanded a monthly payment of 50,000 pesos from the victim,” police said in a statement.

“The investigations indicate that the suspects charged this amount as “protection money” as a condition for continuing to work in the sale of tours, for which the victim made the required payment at the end of each month.”
Following the report, authorities compiled the investigation and obtained an arrest warrant which was executed by the Investigative Police.
