Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — Aguakan will start the second phase of its beach collector project in central Playa del Carmen next week. The company says they will begin excavation April 27 for the new drainage system along 1st Avenue North.
Crews will open the ground on 1st Avenue North at 10th Street to install a 142 linear meters of new drainage pipe. The project will include in creation of six street drains that will connect to pipes to prevent street wastewater draining into the sea.

The company says the project will consolidate Playa del Carmen as a more sustainable city by continuing to strengthen the quality of drainage services with the second stage of the “Colector Playero” project.
“This strategic project in the tourist zone represents an investment of 2.5 million pesos, further contributing to the protection of the coastal environment and providing direct benefits to the community, the tourism sector and businesses in the area,” said Augakan.
The project’s strategic objective is to gradually eliminate wells in the coastal area, optimizing the sanitation system and reducing environmental risks through the proper channeling of discharges to the Federal Zone collector.
Aguakan says the second phase will start on 1st Avenue North in the section between 10th Street North and 12th Street North where 142 linear meters of 10-inch sanitary PVC pipe (series 25) will be installed as well as the construction of six new well structures.

“For the execution of this work, the open trench method will be implemented under a well-to-well construction system, including activities such as the layout and delimitation of the work area, the cutting and demolition of pavement, the excavation and removal of cobblestones, the placement of sanitary pipe, as well as the filling and compaction work, ” said Jorge Rosas, coordinator of Works for Aguakan in Playa del Carmen.
According to the company, the second phase of the project is scheduled to conclude in August of this year.
