Search and rescue locate one alive, one drowned off Tulum coast

Tulum, Q.R. — One person has been rescued alive and another found drowned off the coast of Tulum. On Sunday evening, the SSC (Secretaría de Seguridad Ciudadana) of Quintana Roo reported on the helicopter rescue of two men.

Authorities were alerted to two men reportedly drowning off a Punta Allen beach late Sunday afternoon. According to the SSC report, Jesús Manuel Dzul, one of the two reported drowning, was rescued alive and transferred to Cancun hospital by helicopter.

During the SSC rescue of Jesús Manuel Dzul, a second person, aged 35, was found deceased by Navy personnel who is believed to have drowned. Authorities have not identified the second person, however, he is reported to have worked locally at a hotel after arriving to the area from Yucatan.

“The Quintana Roo Citizen Security Secretariat (SSC) reports on the rescue of Jesús Manuel Dzul, carried out in coordination with members of the Navy, after he was found drowning in the beach area of the town of Punta Allen, Tulum.

“He was transported by helicopter to the Cancun General Hospital for specialized medical care. SSC ERUM personnel performed the corresponding medical assessment and monitored the patient throughout the transfer process.

“The initial evaluation reported that the patient’s vital signs were within normal limits.
It is also reported that another person was found without vital signs in the same area, presumably also due to drowning,” the said in a statement.
