Othón P. Blanco, Q.R. — Work continues on the repair of a washed out highway in south Quintana Roo. On Monday, Governor Mara Lezama reported concrete boxes were being placed in the washed out area prior to it being filled and compacted.

Work began on the repair of the Morocoy Highway Sunday after it was found impassable due to heavy rain from Tropical Storm Nadine Saturday.
“Together with the Ministry of National Defense and Seop QRoo, work is progressing on Highway 186. Concrete boxes are being placed, filling and compacting are being done to reopen the road soon. Thank you for your patience. Take precautions,” Governor Mara Lezama said Monday.
The major municipal roadway was found washed out after heavy rains from the storm flooded the area. A canal that runs under the highway became a rushing river due to the Saturday rain.

The harshness of that rushing water caused a section of the highway to collapse. Heavy machinery was brought in Sunday to begin the demolition of the narrowed road. Two concrete boxes have been installed under the highway as part of the repair.
Motorists using the Morocoy-San Pedro Peralta highway in Othón P. Blanco to access the towns of Morocoy, San Pedro Peralta, Lázaro Cárdenas and Limones are being temporarily rerouted.
