Quintana Roo taking steps to stop aggressive taxi drivers from working in other states

Riviera Maya, Q.R. — The State of Quintana Roo is taking steps to prevent aggressive taxi drivers from working in other states. State Attorney General Raciel López Salazar said that aside from fines and the cancellation of their state license, taxi drivers found guilty of aggressive behavior should not be able to work as drivers in other states.

He said it is not right that taxi drivers who engage in aggressive behavior in Quintana Roo go to another state to obtain another taxi driver’s license.

“We are not going to tolerate aggressive behavior from taxi drivers against drivers of digital platforms that affect tourists who come to enjoy the beauties of Quintana Roo,” he said.

He mentioned that the two Cancun taxi drivers currently jailed for a July attack against a digital platform driver are both looking at the possibility of 18 year sentences.

“Regardless of the legal charges against the two aggressive drivers, we are asking for the cancellation of their driver’s licenses and the revocation of their taxi concessions,” he said.

López Salazar said that they are working in coordination with the Mobility Institute so that this type of aggressive behavior does not go unpunished “because we are not going to tolerate aggressive behavior that affects the image of Quintana Roo.”
