Cancun, Q.R. — Two Cancun taxi drivers arrested last week for assaulting a vehicle transporting tourists will remain jailed. On Sunday, a Cancun judge determined that taxi drivers Alex “N” and Joshua “N” will stand trial on charges of robbery, damages and injures.
Their charges stem from a July 27 attack against a vehicle transporting tourists from Israel. They were videoed attacking the vehicle and its driver on Yaxchilan Avenue. During their day in court, a Cancun judge determined that the pair are to remain jailed while prosecutors gather evidence over the next 12 months.
The news came the day after another Cancun taxi driver was arrested for throwing acid on an Uber car. On Saturday, video of a Cancun taxi driver being taken into police custody began circulating after the taxi driver threw acid on a car causing damage.
The incident happened around 4:00 p.m. on Bonampark Avenue. According to the victim, a passenger requested his service from a hotel in the area. The taxi driver is alleged to have intercepted the car, throwing acid at the passenger door.
Police arrived and arrested the taxi driver, who, according to reports, agreed to pay for the acid damage in order to avoid being jailed.
