New federal highway smart-arch welcomes drivers to Playa del Carmen

Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — A new arch over the federal highway now welcomes drivers into Playa del Carmen. The new city smart-arch, which was built at the northern entrance, symbolizes identity and pride, says Mayor Estefanía Mercado.

The arch, which was paid for with municipal funding, was officially inaugurated Monday with Governor Mara Lezama. “The new City Access Arch is a municipal project that symbolizes the identity and pride of this destination and incorporates technology to strengthen public safety,” the mayor said.

Governor Lezama emphasized that the new arch represents “a gateway to the heart of the Riviera Maya where tourism, culture and Playa del Carmen pride come together.”

Mayor Estefanía Mercado explained that the structure combines design, functionality and technology. “This arch is not only a symbol of welcome, but also a smart infrastructure that strengthens the security of our city,” she said.

She explained that a video surveillance system linked to the monitoring center of the Playa del Carmen Citizen Security Secretariat was installed inside the arch. It features high-tech cameras that record the entry and exit of vehicles 24 hours a day, providing greater protection for both residents and visitors.

Governor Lezama recognized the efforts of the Playa del Carmen City Council in promoting projects that strengthen the municipality’s urban and tourism infrastructure.

The new smart-arch is at the city’s northern entrance.

“This arch reflects our joint effort to continue building shared well-being and prosperity through tourism. We will continue promoting projects that strengthen sustainable tourism, always keeping families, their well-being, and their future in mind,” she stated.

Mara Lezama emphasized that in Quintana Roo, working hand in hand with the municipalities, the transformation is moving forward.
