Tulum, Q.R. — Tulum police are investigating the finding of a decomposing body Tuesday morning off the federal highway. A passing motorist noticed human remains sticking out of a black plastic bag that had been tossed off the roadway shoulder.

The large garbage bag was located a few kilometers north of the town of Chumkopo along the federal 307. The bag was visible to passersby, having been tossed into weeds less than a meter from the shoulder of the highway.
A man on a motorcycle made the discovery Tuesday morning around 8:30 a.m. Police from Tulum Public Security arrived at the scene to confirm his finding. The decomposing body is reported to be that of a man. No further details were provided.
Personnel from the State Attorney General’s Office (FGE) began collecting evidence before the large black bag containing the remains was removed. Authorities from the Secretaría de Seguridad Pública y Protección Ciudadana (SSPC) de Tulum have not commented on the finding.
