Isla Mujeres steps it up a notch with state of the art cameras

Isla Mujeres, Q.R. — Municipal Mayor Atenea Gómez Ricalde says more and better video surveillance cameras are being added. She reported Thursday that the municipality will be adding cameras equipped with artificial intelligence to the nearly 600 they already have.

The more sophisticated cameras will strengthen monitoring and response capacity at the C2 Centre. The new state-of-the-art cameras have facial recognition, intelligent monitoring points, high-performance computing equipment and specialized personnel operating 24 hours a day.

“With cutting-edge technology and a clear vision for the future, the Municipal Government, led by Atenea Gómez Ricalde, is strengthening public safety by installing more and better video surveillance cameras equipped with artificial intelligence, thus strengthening monitoring and response capacity at the Command and Control Centers (C2),” Isla Mujeres City Hall reported.

Thanks to this technology, the handling of reports, the clarification of incidents and the location of lost objects have been optimized, directly contributing to strengthening the security and image of Isla Mujeres as a clean, orderly and safe destination.

“This innovative artificial intelligence system allows us to identify and process information in real time, which translates into faster and more effective responses to any situation,” explained Mayor Atenea Gómez Ricalde.

The new security system includes state-of-the-art cameras with facial recognition, intelligent monitoring points, high-performance computing equipment, and specialized personnel operating 24 hours a day to safeguard island families.

“Today we have almost 600 municipal cameras and in 2026, we will install many more. This is part of a planned, forward-looking strategy, because in Isla Mujeres we work wholeheartedly and with commitment to continue being a clean, beautiful, and safe municipality,” the Mayor said.

The incorporation of artificial intelligence technology represents a turning point in the security strategy, allowing for precise image analysis, facial recognition, and detection of suspicious movements, providing the General Directorate of Citizen Security and emergency services with more effective tools to protect the population.

Darvy Ordóñez, head of C2 in Costa Mujeres, emphasized that this new technological stage substantially improves the response capacity to any eventuality, ensuring a faster and more effective response.
