Cozumel police seize homes and make arrests in coordinated raids

Cozumel, Q.R. — Six people were arrested over the weekend in three police raids on the island of Cozumel. Authorities reported conducting the separate searches in homes believed used for drug trafficking.

“On the island of Cozumel, six people were arrested near the searched homes,” they said. Five men and one woman were arrested “for their probable involvement in acts that may constitute drug dealing offenses.”

The properties searched were located on 80th Avenue South between 21st Street South and 19th Street South in the Maravilla neighborhood. There, authorities found a variety of drugs that were seized along with a vehicle.

“In the vicinity of the searched location, authorities arrested Juan Alberto “N”, Selvi Iracema “N” and Brandon Antonio “N”,” they said.

Investigative Police officers executed a search warrant at a home located on 85th Avenue between 5th South and José María Morelos Street in the San Gervasio neighborhood.

Inside, they found drugs and arrested Merced Ubaldo “N” and José Enrique “N” “a few meters from the building”, who were also found in possession of narcotics.

At a third home, Claudio Gonzalo “N” was taken into custody after being found to be carrying doses of suspected narcotics. The raids were conducted in coordination with the State Attorney General, the Ministry of National Defense, National Guard, Navy, and the Ministry of Citizen Security.

All three homes were seized by the state. Those arrested are facing charges of drug trafficking.
