Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — City firemen reported rescuing a young girl and her dog from a burning home Monday. Firemen were called to the home by neighbors after seeing smoke coming from inside the house.

At the scene, firefighters located the home with a five year old inside. She was found to be alone in the house and attempting to boil water at the time of the fire. Firemen pried open the metal bars from an outside window to gain access to the home.
Authorities reported a pot left on the stove was the cause of the house fire.
Specialized officers from the family unit divison of Geavig were called in to remove the girl from the house. There were no injuries reported.
“In an immediate response, firefighters from the Civil Protection Secretariat rescued a minor and a dog after responding to a report of a fire at a home in the Pescadores neighborhood,” Bomberos Playa del Carmen said in a statement Monday.
“Using hydraulic tools and quick maneuvers, firefighters opened a window and extracted the 5-year-old girl, conscious and uninjured, who was handed over to the Specialized Group for Attention to Domestic and Gender Violence (GEAVIG) for safekeeping.
“During the intervention, a dog that was inside the home was also rescued. The fire was contained without major damage. According to preliminary information, the cause of the fire was a pot of water left on the stove.”
